Daily maintenance methods for variable frequency motors

2024-11-20

The variable frequency motor is the main power source of various mechanical devices. In order to ensure the continuous and reliable operation of the device, the daily maintenance and regular maintenance of the variable frequency motor are very important.

The daily maintenance of the variable frequency drive three phase induction motor is roughly divided into: observation, listening, touching, measuring and doing. Users can prevent and avoid most errors and reduce losses through these five simple steps.

  1. Look: In daily inspections, check the size of the variable frequency control of induction motor and the change of the working current to see if there is water leakage or dripping around, causing the variable frequency motor to burn due to a slight insulation fault. It also depends on whether there are objects around the variable frequency motor that affect ventilation and heat dissipation. Check whether the fan, end cover, fan blades and the outside of the motor are too dirty and need to be cleaned to ensure the cooling effect.
  2. Listen: Pay attention to whether the noise of the variable frequency motor is abnormal. Due to the high noise in the cabin, auxiliary tools such as screwdrivers or stethoscopes can be used to listen close to both ends of the motor to prevent the motor bearings from being blocked due to lack of oil and dry grinding. Round and curved holes are burned out.
  3. Touch: Use the back of your hand to check the temperature around the variable frequency motor. When the bearing is in good condition, the temperature at both ends is usually lower than the temperature of the central winding part. If the temperature at both ends of the bearing is high, check the bearing according to the measured bearing noise. If the overall temperature of the motor is too high, the load, equipment and ventilation of the motor must be checked in combination with the working current, and corresponding treatment must be carried out.
  4. Test: When the variable frequency motor is running, measure the three-phase working voltage and three-phase current to determine whether it is balanced. The voltage should be basically the same, and the error between the current of each phase and the average value should not exceed 10%. If the difference between the currents of each phase measured by the clamp meter is too large, a short circuit may occur between the windings.

Do the above work well. For the problems found during the inspection, not only should corrective measures be taken in a timely manner, but also the motor should be screwed, cable tightened, disassembled, cleaned and maintained according to the maintenance cycle (monthly).
